Marriage Customs

Today Haiping and I discussed various traditions about marriage in China and America. In China the couple will pay for the wedding instead of the parents. And the weddings cost at least 300,000 yuan. Kids will often get married in their mid-twenties after they have saved up for the wedding. And the couple will split everything in half. In America often times parents will pay for the wedding because the kid will often pay for their college education. But in China, parents will pay for education but not the wedding. Often the bride's family in America will pay for the wedding ceremony and groom's family will pay for the reception. But not in China. So it was a lot of fun and very interesting to discuss.
