On Wednesday, March
1st I met up with my child tutee Kavira from 4:30-5:30pm at her
house. This was our sixth and final tutoring session, so Simon and I decided to
stay inside with our tutees instead of going outside. When I first arrived,
Simon was playing a game with the children that taught them the different
animals and the sounds they make, such as pig, cow, dog. This gave me the idea
to play “Old McDonald had a Farm” which helped Kavira remember the animals
better. I then showed them pictures of the different animals and asked them
what they were called to help reinforce the animal’s names from the songs. Their
favorite song I played for them was Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes and they
even asked me to play it by calling it “knees and toes.” So I played the video
and then we reviewed the body parts again. I was proud of how much they remembered.
All of these children are so bright, and I know if they keep with it their English
will improve so much in the future. I’m going to try and go back every few weeks to see how the children are doing and to just drop by and say hi.
