Review and Complete Sentences
Today we did several different things. We started with review of what they had learned. And Abu wasn't able to come, so I worked with Amidu and Mariam and Johari. They were confused with the colors. So we reviewed those by playing a game. I gave them markers and they had to run to a piece of paper on the ground that matched the color of the marker they had. Then they had to return it and tell me the name of the color. They seemed to enjoy this game. And it was immediate feedback, if they stood on the wrong color, they had to move until they found the correct color. And if they told me the wrong word, they had to keep going until they named the correct color.
I learned that they need a lot of repetition. They probably don't speak English when I'm not there to tutor them.Their English does improve each week, so I think they do practice some, but I can't tell how much. Reviewing everything every week is beneficial. They also are learning more nouns and verbs, but aren't putting them together. So we went over "am, is, are" with ages, because they know their numbers. Amidu is getting more comfortable with speaking, but Johari and Mariam still need to be called on specifically to speak and interact in English. I've gotten better at making sure both Johari and Mariam practice the words, and that Amidu doesn't talk over them. I've also found ways to make sure they enjoy what learning and don't get bored. This has helped me pay more attention to them to see if they understand what I say.
