On Wednesday,
February 8th I met with my child tutee Kavira for the second time
from 4:30-5:30 at her house. The children all wanted to go outside again, so
that’s what we did. I did the ball dribbling exercise with them again to see if
they remembered how to count to ten, and they were much better at counting this
time. One of the main problems with tutoring outside is that a lot of the
neighborhood kids are curious and like to join in. During this session Kavira
and her friends played on the playground next to her house. I taught her
different colors and tried reinforcing these colors by pointing to different
items on the playground or just anything that was the same color as the one I
was trying to teach her. For example, if the I taught her the color black by
pointing to my car (which is black) and saying black, and then pointing to my
hair which is also black. She learned quickly, and her favorite color to say is
orange because in the beginning she would always answer orange no matter what
color I pointed to. But after awhile she understood and was learning the simple
colors like blue, green, red, and yellow. Seeing how quickly she learns, I’m
excited to come back next week.
