Bob's House
Parties, Celebrations

Today, Bob hosted all of the TEFL kids and their conversations partners, so I got the chance to meet a lot of other students. I spoke to several students about party customs in their home countries. Haiping told me the American style of hanging out in the front yard is very different from how they would celebrate in China. She said often they will eat dinners together but they don't barbecue or eat outside like we would. Then we played heads up and hang man and we started talking about games you would play at a party. They had never heard of hangman so they enjoyed playing that and trying the new games. It was interesting to hear their perspectives and see how they reacted to the event. They tried chips and salsa and nacho cheese, and popcorn, and we discussed various foods that people would eat at a party. Haiping has never had chips and salsa before, in China they usually have meals at get togethers rather than small snacks. We also talked about various types of music and movies. And how Chinese films are often sillier and involve less sleeping around than American dramas.  It was a more casual setting and it was fun to hang out with everyone.
