Holidays
For my last tutoring session with Sheila, we discussed cultural differences for holidays, and I focused on helping her conjugate verbs and make sure she used the correct tenses and vocabulary. I gave her instant feedback, but mostly we just focused on cultural differences. This gave her a chance to practice her speaking and listening, and she gets one on one feedback. I can speak slowly and reword sentences and help her with new vocabulary.
Sometimes I use words that are low frequency and have to explain that to her. So I need to be aware of my speed and vocabulary around various levels. I need to be more intentional and deliberate about what I say and be careful to make sure its helpful. Tutoring Sheila showed me my weaknesses, and helped me be a better English teacher.
