Money and Simple Verbs
For the second half of today, we worked on verbs and money. For the verbs we played charades, and gave everyone a chance to act and guess. They knew they actions really well but struggled with reading a little. Amidu was bored, but Johari and Mariam enjoyed it. We went over verbs of actions they do everyday and added some new words since the last week we worked on verbs. We corrected the errors they made in the games and then tried to teach them money.
Money was a little bit difficult. We had each piece and we tried to teach them names and value. Amidu understood a little, but Mariam and Johari didn't seem to understand at all. But they were patient and kept repeating after us and tried to understand. I think we did money too early. I think we should have done a better schema building activity, and then tried to compare American money with Burundi money, and then tried to get them to understand the different names and prices. They can learn nouns just fine, but we weren't able to help them understand the values of each coin.
