On Wednesday
February 1st I met with my adult tutee Xiaoyu in Dirac from 3:20-4:20pm.
She needed help with homework, so we went through a few of the worksheets she
has questions on. She had an article she had to read for her reading class, and
had questions about some of the vocabulary. She highlighted the words she didn’t
understand, and had Chinese translations written above the highlighted words. I
went though all the words she didn’t understand in case the Chinese
translations weren’t accurate in the context of the article. She also had a
worksheet concerning joining two clauses or phrases together with conjunctions.
She didn’t understand the therefore and however, so I explained the difference
to her. I learned that the internet is really helpful in looking up grammar structures
in order to make sure you’re teaching something correctly. We then took a short
10-minute break and started our next session at 4:30.
