Kailon TS #2

During the second tutoring session with Larissa, we talked pronunciation, history, and culture. while Larissa told me about what it was like living in Burkina Faso, I took note of her pronunciation and made a list of certain words that she needed help with. I noticed that she had a hard time pronouncing the letter "h" (she did not pronounce them at all) and the letter "r". My belief is that this is due to the nature of the French language, her native tongue. I also asked her to read a writing sample, and told her which aspects needed to be fixed. After she read, I read the same writing sample aloud in order for her to get a grasp for pronunciation. After going over pronunciation, I told her various vocab words for some of the objects that she was unfamiliar with (she pointed at the objects and asked what they were). I also told her what it means to "rain-check" a plan or idea. After this, we talked about American history and culture. I also asked her if her previous expectations and pre-conceived notions of the United States coincide with what she is now experiencing in Tallahassee. she told me that she hopes to one day become an engineer. i definitely enjoyed working with her, and I look forward to our next two meetings.
