Ansley CO #1
This morning I observed Vicky Golen's 2B level grammar class. During the class observation today we covered simple past tense. Ms. Golen was very welcoming and encouraged me to participate in the class as much as I wanted. She began by reviewing what the simple past tense tells us. Then we used a story from their textbook to identify the verb form in use. The story was about the lost colony at Roanoke. The students seemed to understand the use of the simple past but had trouble with reading comprehension during the story. After we finished reading the story the students were asked to write 3 sentences about what they thought may have happened to the lost colony. I think because of the gaps in reading comprehension they struggled with the sentence construction. After this activity we focused on the irregular forms of the simple past. The exercise asked one student to say the simple present tense and the other respond with the simple past tense. I was impressed by the students ability to recall the irregular forms. Overall I liked Ms. Golen's energy. She kept things moving and the students stayed engaged.
