Julia Smith CO#2
Today I observed Victoria Davis' 1A grammar class from 9:00-9:50. The topic of the lesson was using the simple present and present continuous forms in sentences and questions. She explained to me that she had taught the lesson the previous day, and that today would be mostly activity and practice. She began with a review of the content by asking students about the different forms as she wrote examples on the board. For the main activity, Davis handed out white boards and markers for each student, and wrote a question and had the students respond on their whiteboards. She also allowed me to write questions on my white board for students to answer. While the students were thinking and writing, she walked around and observed. If a student had a grammatical error, she would point it out and prompt the student to think about it, and did not simply correct the student. Finally, Davis put students into groups of four and had them write, ask and answer six different questions in the simple present and present continuous. I greatly appreciated how Davis included me in the classroom, as it encouraged me to be more engaged, and also allowed me to form a better idea of the classroom dynamic.
