Today I observed the class, Foundations of Speaking with Leslie Wagner. My class size was small, only five students, all of whom were from different cultural backgrounds. The class started out with introductions, we all introduced ourselves and asked each other basic questions such as "How are you?" and "What did you eat for lunch?" Since it was a Foundations class, Ms. Wagner presented a PowerPoint on pronouns and how they apply to a person's family. I was instructed to ask the students what their family was like, how old were their parents, how many siblings did they have, etc. and they would answer using he/she pronouns. If there were any errors in the sentences I helped them and helped with their spelling and pronunciation.
We also went over vowels and sentences that made it easy to differentiate between the different vowel sounds, such as "The cat chased the rat" and how letters such as 't' sound different from 'd'.
Overall, I had a lot of fun and Ms. Wagner was very patient and her lesson plan flowed nicely as it transitioned from one topic to the next. This class definitely was focused on building the student's confidence in their speaking abilities and it showed as the students were very engaged and excited when they understood a concept.
