Kailon CP # 5

During our fifth conversation, my conversation partner and I discussed famous black inventors and traditions in honor of Black History month. I told Jean about the poet, Langston Hughes, who was very influential during the Harlem Renaissance era of the 1920's and 1930's. I told Jean that during this era, there was an explosion of Black American culture, jazz music, artwork, and literature. I next asked if there were any notable poets or inventors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Jean told me that there is a famous musician by the name of Ngoma Afrika. He told me that this artist promotes Black music. Also, there are two notable festivals that occur in the DRC. They are: Fespam and Pende. Fespam stands for: "Festival panafrican de musique" in French. This festival promotes African values and cultures. Pende is a traditional festival that is specific to the DRC. It is very traditional and shows off the: ancestral heritage, values and culture through singing and dancing. It was very nice to speak with Jean about this, and compare and contrast our different cultures.
