Julia Smith CP #5
On February 15, Sheila and I met and walked on campus through the market Wednesday, and just around campus. Although it was only our third time meeting, I think that she is beginning to feel mo re comfortable in asking questions and expressing when she does not understand what I am saying. At Market Wednesday, when she saw a sign with a word that she did not know how to pronounce, she would ask me, and repeat until she felt comfortable with it. A few words that she asked about were "jewelry", "earrings" and "treadmill" (we were talking about the gym). I was interested from our class discussion about how different cultures accept compliments, and so I asked Sheila about this. She said she wasn't sure, so I gave examples of different reactions to compliments in America. She then told me that she thought it was pretty much the same, although I am not sure if it was because of the difficulty of language used in describing this. We talked about Valentine's day, Spring Break and going to the gym, and we plan to go to a workout class together next week.
