Refer back to yesterday's post. We spent today's session hammering out definite and indefinite articles. We had another good minimum pair drill (on / an) for pronunciation. Now that we've been working together for awhile, I'm focusing more on his pronunciation. I gave the lesson then used worksheets copied from Grammar in Use (Unit 70, pg. 91 and Unit 71, pg. 92) to test his knowledge.
I have to look up a couple of things such as: why don't we use an article in expressions such as: I play tennis and I speak English. It looks like I have more work to do before tomorrow night's session! I assigned him homework - *note - no articles used there either. Why did I not assign him the homework? Also why are both articles acceptable when discussing musical instruments? e.g. I play the guitar and I play a guitar are both acceptable. Whew! This English is tough! I have to find out why. Can't leave the lad hanging! If anybody wants to chime in, please do so in the comments.
His assignment is to review the article he wrote about himself, correct it with the appropriate articles where needed, and return it to me NLT 22-Feb-2017.
