Sabrina Debrard TS#2
I met with my adult tutee for the second time on Saturday, January 28. We practiced speaking during the last session, and had discussed that we wanted to do something different for this session. She mentioned that she wasn't having any trouble with her schoolwork and that she was fine with any material, which gave me free reign to decide what to do for our session. I actually was a little uncertain as to what to plan at first, but because she had stressed that she mostly wanted to work on speaking I decided to stick with that as a main focus. I brought the word game Scrabble along to our session and played it with her during our conversation. Scrabble allowed me to add in vocabulary and spelling study to our session because the words we created from the letter tiles allowed Dasom to practice exercising her own spelling and vocabulary. We took turns explaining each word we put down and for some words I used my laptop to physically show her what the word referred to (one such word was 'cord'). I noticed she had some difficulty distinguishing certain words as I was explaining so I made it a point to enunciate and explain more clearly (for example, at one point she was confused about the pronunciation and difference between 'lug' and 'rug'). By the end of our session we had a great conversation and Dasom had a decent list of vocabulary to practice and she had actually won the game!
