Kailon TS #9
Today, I had two tutoring sessions with my other adult tutee, Amaury. During the first session, Amaury and I did a timed writing exercise. Amaury had to compare and contrast his culture in Burkina Faso from American culture. I also asked Amaury to write about his first impression of the United States, and how he thought the environment was (warm and friendly, hostile and cruel, etc). Amaury was given five minutes to think about the topic, and ten minutes to write as much as he could to answer the questions. Before Amaury started writing, I showed him an example of a brainstorming and planning activity that he could write in order to gather his thoughts. Even though Amaury prefers speaking over writing, I told him that it is an essential skill to know and that there is a writing section on the TOEFL exam. The first section was productive.
