We discussed several things, Haiping showed me a power point of Chinese New Year, we read through the email sent out about generalizations and stereotypes, and we discussed popular Chinese musicians. She taught me traditions and how the Chinese celebrate the Spring Festival and what foods they eat in the North compared to the South. We read through the stereotypes and we talked about which ones we were familiar with and what we had heard, she wasn't familiar with a lot of the stereotypes, but we could both see how they came about based on our knowledge of different cultures. Lastly she shared some new music and TV shows with me, and we discussed differences between Chinese comedy and drama and American comedy and drama. I learned that American shows are generally more crude and Chinese shows are more cute and silly. She showed me some dramas that similar to American dramas and it was really interesting. We also talked about how different Hong Kong culture is from Mainland culture and Northern culture. She talked about how she misses speaking Cantonese. Watching American dramas is difficult because she can't find chinese subtitles. I learned a lot and got to practice my Mandarin a little. We enjoyed meeting.
