Rachael TS#4

On Wednesday (2/8), I had another tutoring session with Da-som. I prepared yet another powerpoint with new activities. This time, I had a few videos from How I Met Your Mother prepared. I used a clip from the episode where they explain their intervention system, but before we watched that we discussed "what would you do if your friend had a habit you thought was bad?" After a good conversation, we turned to the video and then I had her summarize the video, and then we went through a few comprehension questions. I think just being able to watch people emote helped her understanding quite a bit! We did similar schema building, video watching, and comprehension questions for another HIMYM clip about smoking.

The next activity I had planned was a dictation from the first Harry Potter book! I made the mistake of not having her correct it first, but then I tried to compensate for it by going through it sentence-by-sentence with her to check for comprehension.

Finally, I got out a deck of cards and we played my Conversation Cards game that I made up for my speaking lesson plan. It was a lot of fun, and it got her speaking in full sentences! I definitely think that playing that game in a future classroom would be fruitful.
