Topic/Skill: Possessive Pronouns vs. Possessive Determiners

Feedback provided: I helped my tutee determine the difference between possessive pronouns and possessive determiners by breaking down common ways in which we see them used. For example we usually see a possessive pronouns at the end of a sentence or after the subject under possession. We see possessive determiners before the noun and in place of a person's name.

Lesson learned: It is easy to confuse possessive determiners with possessive pronouns. Both show that someone takes possession of something. However, there is a big difference in the way that we use my and mine or our and ours. As has been iterated several times in class, finding the pattern is the best way to help a student understand and accurately use grammar. Although I am still a novice at finding patterns myself, there is a sense of satisfaction to be had in being able to help someone use them.
