On February 11th, 2017 I met with the child refugees for the second time. This time, Aileen was already there with the children, and so we taught the lesson together. I brought materials and activities to teach the body parts, and decided to focus only on the body parts taught in the song "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes", so that we could eventually listen to the song together. First Aileen and I taught the body parts with some diagrams that I brought for them to fill out. Then, we had the kids write the names of the body parts on sticky notes and put them on the corresponding body part, which I think that the kids enjoyed. After we felt like they had a grasp on: head, shoulders, knees and toes, we played the first part of the song and stood up and did the motions. Next, we did the same with 'eyes, ears, mouth and nose'.
Since I taught the colors in the previous week, I wanted to review. I pulled out the construction paper and did an informal assessment of what they remembered by asking them to say the names of the colors and identify the color of objects from around the room.
To end the session, we played the "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" song one last time to reiterate, and I plan to go over the body parts again next week.
