Julia Smith TS #7
On February 9th, 2017, I met with Dojun for our fourth meeting. We started off just chatting about life, and then I began our lesson focusing on listening and speaking. I had prepared a few different activities relating to job descriptions and hiring new employees in the real world. I first showed him an example of a written job description for a waiter, and gave him a few minutes to look over it. I then asked him to pretend like he had to hire an English teacher, and think about what he would write in a job description. I then asked him questions such as the amount of schooling he would require, if he would hire someone with a non-native accent, and other questions of the sort. Then, I read aloud to him the descriptions of four possible candidates that he could hire, and I had him choose one candidate to hire. After he jokingly told me that he would hire all of the candidates, I asked him about each individual. At this point, I also showed him the text that I read aloud so that he could refer back to the descriptions for further discussion. One vocab word that I taught him was ‘stepping stone’ and we discussed this pros and cons to this and different examples of jobs that could be used as stepping stones.
