Today I met with my adult tutee Ima, for a session at CIES. We followed up from our previous session on Tuesday by focusing on speech rate, dialogue, and pronunciation. I had Ima correct some of his grammar mistakes from typed out speaking concepts that we went through on Tuesday. He seemed to really get a hang of his grammar problem patterns. I had him speak the corrections a few times through so that he would be able to mentally conceptualize the corrections of his own mistakes. Afterwards, we role played a couple of dialogues and pushed through some pronunciation problems and vocabulary questions. It was interesting to discuss some of the idioms that were peppered throughout the dialogues. Although there are some specific pronunciation problems that will take some time to hammer out (being from Japan, there are specific problem tendencies), he seemed to show progress in several areas.
