Child Tutoring Session: Christian Shukuru

This was the first time I was able to tutor Christian, he was a young child who is currently in second grade. Unfortunately, I realized from the first conversations with him that he only knew words in English but could not understand any of my questions. He only knew the word yes, and would answer to everything with yes. Therefore, I decided to start from the beginning and I began teaching him the ABC's. We went over every one of them, and then I started singing them.Which he enjoyed and he was able to follow. Then we went over the numbers by using our fingers so he had a visual on what I was saying. He had a book he was assign, so we began reading it together. Every page had a picture, so he would read after me and then I would ask him questions on the reading. Such as where is the red ball, and then he would point or I would point to it. We ended by going over different types of coins in America, because he was getting his math homework wrong, and it was because he didn't understand the amount associated with every coin such as 25 for a quarter and a nickel.
