Julia Smith CP#3
On February 3, 2017 I met for the first time with my new conversation partner, Yousef. We had trouble communicating our locations at first, but eventually found each other at the correct Starbucks. I quickly realized that he was at a beginner level in English, and he told me that he was in the foundations class. We went to international coffee hour together, and saw other fellow students with their conversation partners. It was hard to hear and talk in the room, and so we sat outside and I asked him about his family, where he went to eat, and differences between America and Saudi Arabia. He did have trouble communicating several times, because he would begin a sentence but stop and say that he did not know, with a laugh. With such a foundational level, I will think of some topics to talk about before the next time we meet.
