I tutored Mohammad for another hour on speaking and listening. For listening, we went over a lesson he had not yet covered in class. I read him the passage, and he took notes based on what I said. After, I looked at his notes and made any grammatical corrections to the errors I found, and had him refer to his notes and answer the questions based on the listening exercise. He found that he had insufficient information about the passage, so I read it again, asking him to pay attention to key words and details. We tried to answer the questions again, and this time he had enough information to complete the questions. I helped him form the correct response to the question only by correcting his grammar, but I mostly let him answer the questions about the information without much of my help or guidance.
For speaking we picked a topic found in his work book and went over the lesson. This part was mostly freeform as we started talking about the difference in cultures and how people are more open about opinions and ideas in America in comparison to his home country. We eventually got back onto the topic of the lesson, and I had him practice some of the sentences and phrases in the lesson and I would correct him on his pronunciation and intonation. Overall, we went over a lot in this session and he learned a lot of new vocabulary.
