Joelle TS#5

I met with Pasos on Monday to practice his hand writing and his reading. As a group, me, Pasos, and the other children read aloud a children's book. This took about 30 minutes as I went over each word and phrase and pointed to the pictures that the words referred to, such as "Box" and I would point to the picture of a box in the children's book. I would encourage both Pasos and his family to read along with me, and even had Pasos read most of the sentences by himself. He's learning really fast!
I also taught Pasos some basic antonyms and synonyms. For example, I would ask him, what is the opposite of up? And he would reply "Down" and I would explain to him that the antonym is the direct opposite of whatever word you're reading. We also went over synonyms, where I would ask him questions such as what is similar to the word "Pretty"? And he would respond with a synonym such as "Beautiful".
For hand writing I would write a sentence such as "The house is blue" and have him practice it. I had him write his name, and practice writing without using my writing as a reference. I would say something like "Today, it is Monday" and have him try to recreate the sentence by himself. Often he would need help, but I noticed a huge increase in his hand-writing skills from just that little bit of practice. He seems much more excited about writing and was pleased when he saw that I approved of his work.
